Founded in 1999, Dream A Dream provides children from vulnerable backgrounds with non-traditional educational opportunities designed to allow them to explore, innovate and build important life skills. The organisation also sensitizes the communitiy through active volunteering, leading to a non-discriminatory society where unique differences are appreciated. Having started with a dozen young dreamers, today over 2200 children take part in activities delivered by an active and enthusiastic base of more than 1200 volunteers in Bangalore, India, who work with a professional and skilled team under the guidance of a strong, committed and dynamic Board to promote social development. Along with the creative arts program, Dream Football is one of the core activities at Dream A Dream. Launched in 2007 with 12 children, the program today reaches out to over 500 children. The Dream Football program runs in partnership with six local NGOs and is delivered by professional coaches from local football academies. The coaches undergo training to learn how to use sport as a medium to deliver the Life Skill Curriculum. Their training method “The Dream Way of Working with Children” highlights values like respect for children, progressive ways of getting children to follow instructions, and making learning for children fun, interesting and participatory. Future plans include starting a Dream Coaching Academy to train young graduates from Dream A Dream as football coaches with a life skills perspective, which would give them gainful employment.
