North-East Kenya is home to a vast and stunning wilderness, its blue skies and flat landscapes evoking a profound sense of stillness. And yet it is also a region in which girls as young as 12 are all too regularly subjected to genital mutilation, beading and child marriage.

streetfootballworld network board member Fatuma Abdulkadir is using football to change this reality for good.

Her unflinching mission has been featured in Kenya's Daily Nation newspaper. And you can read all about it here.

“It’s been hard trying to uproot the deep-rooted culture from these communities. But we are slowly changing their mindsets. The ball is yet to replace the bullet fully but we are getting there. And we shall win.”
